Replacing a Watch Battery |
Warning be very careful when discarding your old watch batteries these are highly dangerous if swallowed Keep them out of reach of children and animals if swallowed see your doctor immediately. If you have any problem in disposing of your old batteries then you can send then to us.
We have chosen 4 different types of Watch's to go through the method of changing their batteries. All the tools required to undertake any of the work described are available in our Watch Maker Tools section of this web site.
Watch battery hatch is located on the back of the watch, a rubber grommet or a metal insert with a slot in it. If you watch has a rubber plug or grommet you need to pull it out to remove the battery inspect and clean the area. Don't touch the new battery with your fingers use plastic tweezers replace
battery and insert the grommet back, if it has a metal insert with a slot in it, then there will be an arrow on the insert showing you the direction which has to be turned insert a back case opener and turn it in the direction of the arrow, inspect, clean and then replace the battery.
Watch Snap on Back Examine Cover and clean around the back case cover. If the watch has a bracelet you may need to release the spring bar to get to the cover. Now find the recess on the case back/cover go into or over the case and insert a case opener into the recess then with a gentle twist open the case. Take note of which way around the battery is and take a note of the battery number if possible. Don't touch the new battery with your fingers use plastic tweezers, There are 3 possibilities of how the battery is held in (1) the battery is held in by a spring at the side this requires a small screwdriver to just edge the battery out (2) the battery is held in by a spring just over the top edge of the battery this requires a small screwdriver to push the spring off the battery (3) The watch may have a battery strap over the center of the battery take note of which way around the battery is, you will need to loosen just one screw do not take the screw out it may cause you problems when you come to refit.
Screw on waterproof watch back Replacing a battery in a waterproof watch there is no guarantee that the watch will remain waterproof after. Examine and Clean around the back case cover if the watch has a bracelet you may need to release the spring bar to get to the cover. With the key tool unscrew the back case cover, take note of which way around the battery is take a note of the battery number if possible. Don't touch the new battery with your fingers use plastic tweezers there are 3 possibilities of how the battery is held in (1) By a spring that is down the side of the battery this requires a small screwdriver to edge the battery out (2) ) the battery is held in by a spring just unscrew it completely it may cause you problems when you come to refit. over the top edge of the battery this requires a small screwdriver to push the spring from off the battery (3) The battery is held in by a battery strap over the center of the battery you will need to loosen one of the screws do not
Replacing the back case cover. Before replacing the back case cover make sure that the watch is working, if the watch has a rubber seal between the case and the back case cover inspect it for wear&tear if damaged replace it, screw the back case cover on.
Removing a screw on watch back There are 4 Philip screws on some watches holding the back on, these will have to be removed and the back case cover removed to get access to the battery.
